Our Christian ethos

A school shaped by faith, open to all.

King's Grammar School is an independent Christian school. We believe that every child is made in the image of God, that truth is worth pursuing, and that character is shaped — not assumed. Our motto, Veritas · Lux (truth and light), is a commitment, not a slogan.

In practice, this means daily worship, weekly Bible teaching, and the four school virtues — honesty, courage, kindness, and reverence — taught by example and named in every classroom.

What this looks like

In the school day

  • Morning worship. A short gathering each day with songs, a Bible passage, and prayer. Reverent, age-appropriate, and never coercive.
  • RE lessons. Christian RE taught seriously, alongside study of other major worldviews. Children leave knowing what Christians believe — and what others do.
  • The four virtues. Honesty, courage, kindness, reverence. Named when shown, named when missing. Children learn what these words mean by living them.
  • A Christian community. Staff and trustees affirm the school's Christian basis. This is the source of the school's warmth, not its limitation.
For families considering the school

Common questions

Do my family have to be Christian?
No. We welcome families of all faiths and none. We ask only that families respect and support the Christian tradition that shapes the school.
Will my child be pressured to convert?
No. Worship is reverent, not manipulative. Children are invited to think and to wonder, never to perform.
What denomination is the school?
The school is broadly evangelical and Protestant, but draws from the wider Christian tradition. Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant families are all at home here.
What about Malagasy religious culture?
We treat Malagasy culture and history with deep respect, and teach about it directly. The school is firmly rooted in the east coast and its traditions.
Visit and decide for yourself

The best way to understand a school is to walk through it.

Come and see worship. Sit in on a lesson. Talk to the children. Whatever you believe, you are welcome here.
